This year's theme, "It's A Wonderful Life," is based on the popular holiday classic directed by Frank Capra. The movie opens in 1945 in Bedford Falls, where an everyday hero George Bailey is facing the threat of financial and social ruin until the lovable angel Clarence helps him to see that there is always a solution to despair.
Their Christmas Eve journey provides us with a reminder that together we can overcome any hardship. We desperately need the “togetherness” that Clarence helps Bailey to rediscover, for it provides a remedy for sorrow, doubt, fear, and life's hard knocks.
Angel Clarence earns his wings by saving George Bailey from his worst fears and reminding him of the power of community to triumph over adversity. Clarence's promotion is marked by the bell that rings on Christmas Eve, when Bailey's little daughter Zuzu explains so memorably that
"Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings."
You too can 'earn your wings' at this year's Soiree, where a bell will ring for every donation no matter how large or small. Our goal is to raise $8,000 during the evening, your support helps the people of Pittsburgh recover from their misfortunes.
We can all use a reminder that any act of kindness, no matter how small, makes a difference to someone in need. So come and share your support in a loving effort reminiscent of the generosity of the residents of Bedford Falls, and get your wings on!
